We departed Laredo this morning at 7.50 to catch the ferry to Santoña.
It was 5km along the Laredo promenade to the beech where we get the ferry. There were about 15 people waiting for the ferry when we arrived, and by the time the boat arrived at 9.00, I would say there were around 35. The crossing took less than 10 minutes and cost €2.50 each.
In Santoña, we stopped for breakfast and then headed out on the Camino. After leaving Santoña, we passed a huge building surrounded by a large wall, which we later found out was a prison.
We then passed behind another beach, Playa de Berria, before starting to climb a large headland. At times, the path became quite technical and narrow. However, the views back across Playa de Berria and all the way to Laredo were amazing. On the other side of the headland was another massive beach
We stopped in Noja for drinks and snacks before leaving for Castillo, which was only 2 km away. We arrived in Castillo at about 13.30.
In total, we walked 18.52 km with only 126 metres of elevation. So a total of
100.76 km walked and 1,630 metres of elevation.
