It was a dry start at 7.15 this morning, though the weather forecast warned of possible rain.
After taking a photo, I bumped into Ron outside the albergue. He and his group had stayed in the previous town and, due to a lack of accommodation, and today were facing a 40km day.
Today’s route was entirely dirt paths—first 10km running alongside a local road, then cutting across wheat fields.
We stopped after 5km for breakfast,
and Mark caught up with us and joined the group. Another 5km on, we paused for coffee again to use the facilities , knowing the next stretch was 17km with potentially no services.
We got a bit of rain during the first 7km, but it cleared up for a while. Unfortunately, around the 16km mark, the rain returned heavy for 15km.
We met up with Astrid again—she was in bad form as her iPhone had been damaged by rain yesterday.
I found the last 10km particularly tough today and felt pretty shattered. I didn’t sleep well last night; the albergue was awful.
At the 27km mark, I was completely done, and we all stopped for lunch. I lent Astrid my phone so she could call her husband and give him an update on her location. She plans to either get her phone fixed or buy a new one in León.
Astrid, Mark, and Ron had another 12km ahead of them today, but only a 20km day tomorrow—I will be doing 32km tomorrow.
I’m off to Bercianos del Real Camino tomorrow—a 32km hike. Hopefully, I’ll get some recovery time today. I’ll be motivated, though, as I’ve only got two walking days left: 27km and 18km.
They say the final 10km into León is a brutal industrial slog, so I may even take a local bus for €1.
