Day 8(25): Triacastela to Sarria (por San Xil)

Best nights sleep yet in a dormitory. The room was only half full. I woke once at 2 o’clock and went straight back to sleep.

I left the Albergue at about 08.00 and headed to a local cafe for breakfast.

I left Triacastela at 08.45 and decided on the shorter route. gronze.com said both were equally beautiful and I thought I’d have a easy day.

So it’s 12.53km going right before the paths merge before heading into Saria.

There was still quite a lot of climbing to do but there was lots of shade as we were walking through a largely chestnut forest.

Yes it’s just a path, but I hope the photos give you an idea of the landscape the Camino goes through, compare this to the first few days as I left Leòn

The mountains told on forever but unfortunately they disappear in the haze.

This path must flood often because the path has been elevated on the left to keep the pilgrim’s feet dry

In the middle distance is Saria home for tonight

I treated myself tonight and got a single room for €30.

I texted Laurie and we met for beers and dinner at a great restaurant in town, ‘A Travesía do Soños’.

So for those that don’t know Sarria is the starting point for many pilgrims. To get a certificate you need to do 110 km, Sarria is 115km so we will expect our pilgrims on the Camino tomorrow.

There are five days now left on the Camino, so a lot of pilgrims are worried that their journey is coming to an end they have enjoyed it very much and don’t want it to end or their Camino family to break up. 🥲

Of to Portomarín tomorrow, similar terrain as today. However Portomarin was buried under the Belesar reservoir, buildings with historical value where moved on top of a nearby hill.
