Day 10(27): Portomarín to Palas de Rei

Up and out into a chilly morning at 07.40. Grabbed a quick coffee and a cake and headed out on the Camino. We descended from the town down a big switchback and crossed over a tributary of the main river. The me and other pilgrims climbed through a forest up and away from the river. It was dark so head torches were being used for the first 30 minutes.

A Hórreo,( grain store) is seen on nearly all small farms. I posted photos of a lot of these on my Camino de Norte

Tomorrow I head for Arzúa. It’s 29km, Gronze extract

The stage follows the N-547 highway, which we cross several times, constantly up and down, especially from Melide onwards, due to the numerous streams that run along our route.

Foot note:

I whatsapped the April Camino 2025 Group to say I was on the Camino again. I got several replies but a very unusual reply from Franklin “I think you were the one that told me you fixed your knee issues by increasing glute activation. If so, you have completely changed my life lol”

This blew me away as you can imagine so I needed to know more. I messaged him directly, and this is the summary. So on the camino, he injured his left quad and couldn’t walk for a couple of days. When he intentionally used his glute to walk, it went away. He always had IT band issues when riding a bike so didn’t. When he returned to the US, he engaged his glutes when cycling and had no IT band issues and now cycles every day. He also applies it to swimming and running and now no issues., Gulp!
